Update: Four Hospitalized After Wrong-Way Head-On Collision in San Marcos

San Marcos, CA – Four people, including an infant, were hospitalized after a wrong-way driver collided with two other vehicles Sunday night near an intersection in San Marcos.

Authorities said the collision took place around 8 p.m. on South Santa Fe Avenue near North Rancho Santa Fe Road.

According to police, a blue Honda SUV was traveling the wrong way on the eastbound lanes of South Santa Fe Avenue when it collided head-on with a red Honda SUV and a white Toyota car.

The red Honda was occupied by a 24-year-old father, a 22-year-old mother, and their infant. Both parents sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment. Their baby was not injured but was also hospitalized at Rady Children’s Hospital as a precaution.

The 46-year-old driver of the Toyota was evaluated and released at the scene.

The wrong-way driver, a 29-year-old man, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

At the time of the report, police officers had not yet questioned the wrong-way driver. The officers are collecting more information to establish if intoxication was a contributing factor.

South Santa Fe Avenue between North Rancho Santa Fe Road and South Las Flores Drive remained closed during the investigation.

San Marcos, CA – Three people were injured in a collision in San Marcos on Sunday night, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The wreck took place at South Santa Fe Avenue and North Rancho Santa Fe Road at about 8 p.m.

Wrong-way driving is suspected to have played a role in the crash involving three vehicles.

Two adults sustained broken bones. The two were taken to a hospital for treatment.

A child involved in the accident was transported as a precaution.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision.
