El Monte, CA – A police officer was hospitalized after a DUI driver rear-ended a patrol vehicle Thursday night causing it to slam into a hamburger restaurant in El Monte, authorities said.
The collision occurred on Valley Boulevard near Peck Road.
According to police, an officer was responding to an incident when a suspected DUI driver hit the officer’s patrol car.
The force of the impact sent the patrol vehicle into a nearby hamburger restaurant, causing the building’s overhang to crash down.
The report said the officer was taken to a hospital but is expected to be OK.
The suspect was arrested.
The restaurant was open at the time of the collision but no one on the business premises was injured.
